Being the 1st American sub-8
I will post my race report on Thursday as this is all still sinking in and I continue to collect photos from the race.
The race for an American to go sub-8 was relaunched last year after years of dormancy when I punched the sky winning Ironman Florida winning in 8:06. This spring it became a lot more real when Tim O’Donnell narrowly missed going sub-8 charging to a win at Ironman Brazil in 8:01:32. This time became the fastest time in American history passing up Dave Scott’s Strongman Japan American record set decades ago. This all became history this weekend when I crossed the line in 7:55:22 becoming the first American to break 8-hours and only the second athlete from the Western Hemisphere (Peter Reid).
I am speechless and thankful for all the support from my wife, family, coaches, friends, and sponsors, both past and present. This has been a long journey and I just am really thankful right now.
